Source: GCVE Database

Description

A vulnerability in the entropy initialization for SiWx917 causes the deterministic random bit generator (DRBG) to use a predictable seed, resulting in all random numbers generated in the Matter code using the same predictable stream. The affected repository was already deprecated when this issue was discovered.

Technical Analysis

The entropy initialization process for the SiWx917 component is flawed, causing the DRBG to start with a predictable seed. This predictability compromises the randomness of all generated numbers in the Matter codebase that relies on this DRBG. The repository containing this code was deprecated at the time the vulnerability was identified, indicating it may no longer be in active use or maintenance.

Potential Impact

Because the DRBG uses a predictable seed, all random numbers generated are predictable, which can undermine cryptographic operations relying on randomness within the Matter code. This can lead to weakened security guarantees where randomness is critical. However, the affected code repository was deprecated, potentially limiting exposure.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix is currently available. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since the repository is deprecated, users should avoid using the affected code and migrate to supported alternatives. Monitor vendor communications for updates.
