The vendor advisory does not explicitly confirm patch availability or provide specific mitigation steps. Since the vulnerability requires high privileges and user interaction, limiting access and avoiding processing untrusted registry hive files can reduce risk. Monitor the vendor advisory for updates on patches or official fixes. No urgent remediation is indicated given the low severity and lack of known exploits.
Description
A vulnerability in hivex allows an attacker to cause an out-of-bounds memory read by supplying a specially crafted Windows registry hive file with malformed large data block lists. This can cause the application processing the file to crash, resulting in a denial of service. The issue affects multiple specific versions of hivex and has a low severity rating with a CVSS score of 2. No public exploits are known, and the vulnerability requires high privileges and user interaction to be exploited.
