AI-suggested

Red Hat states that the indent program is not included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9, so those versions are not affected. The vendor advisory recommends not processing untrusted files with the indent program. Users should avoid using indent on untrusted input to mitigate the risk.

Description

A heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the indent program, which formats C code. This flaw may allow a local attacker to cause the application to crash by processing a specially crafted file. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9 do not include the indent program and are therefore not affected. The vulnerability has a medium severity rating with a CVSS score of 5.5 and impacts availability by causing denial of service through application crashes.
