Description

A critical vulnerability (CVE-2026-70398) exists in the multicloud-integrations component of Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RHACM). It allows an authenticated tenant user to manipulate the GitOpsCluster controller to redirect sensitive spoke cluster bearer tokens to a namespace they control. This unauthorized token access can lead to disclosure of critical information and bypass security policies within ArgoCD AppProjects. No official fix or mitigation currently meets Red Hat's criteria for deployment and stability.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-70398 is a critical security flaw in the multicloud-integrations component of Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RHACM). The vulnerability arises because the GitOpsCluster controller writes spoke cluster bearer tokens to a namespace chosen by an authenticated tenant user, bypassing existing security guards. This allows the tenant to exfiltrate sensitive tokens, leading to privilege escalation and circumvention of ArgoCD AppProject constraints. The issue is classified under CWE-441 (Unintended Proxy or Intermediary, 'Confused Deputy'). Red Hat has not yet provided an official fix or mitigation that meets their standards for ease of use, applicability, and stability.

Potential Impact

An authenticated tenant user can redirect sensitive spoke cluster bearer tokens to a namespace they control, resulting in unauthorized disclosure of critical information. This leads to privilege escalation and bypass of security policies within ArgoCD AppProjects. The vulnerability has a CVSS v3.1 score of 9.6 (critical), with high confidentiality and integrity impacts, low attack complexity, and no user interaction required.

Mitigation Recommendations

Currently, Red Hat has not provided an official fix or mitigation that meets their product security criteria for this vulnerability. Users should monitor Red Hat advisories for updates. Until a fix is available, no recommended mitigations are provided by Red Hat.
