Product: netty

Description

A vulnerability in Netty's HTTP/2 HpackEncoder allows a remote attacker to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) by sending HTTP/2 SETTINGS frames with an excessively large MAX_HEADER_TABLE_SIZE. This leads to increased CPU and memory usage due to the storage of many unique headers.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-93492 describes a flaw in Netty's HTTP/2 HpackEncoder where an attacker can exploit the handling of SETTINGS frames with a very large MAX_HEADER_TABLE_SIZE value. This causes the encoder to store an excessive number of unique headers, resulting in elevated CPU and memory consumption and ultimately causing a Denial of Service condition.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows remote attackers to trigger a Denial of Service by exhausting system resources (CPU and memory) through crafted HTTP/2 SETTINGS frames. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance.
