Vendor/Project: Google
Product: MCP Toolbox for Databases (googleapis/mcp-toolbox)

Description

CVE-2026-15829 is a high-severity SQL injection and security boundary bypass vulnerability in Google MCP Toolbox for Databases version 0.13.0. The vulnerability exists in the BigQuery forecasting tool component, where certain client-controlled parameters are interpolated directly into SQL queries without proper escaping. This allows attackers to inject arbitrary SQL, bypass dataset restrictions, and read unauthorized BigQuery tables.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves improper neutralization of special elements used in SQL commands (CWE-89) combined with a security boundary bypass (CWE-863) in the prebuilt BigQuery forecasting tool (bigquery-forecast) of googleapis/mcp-toolbox. The tool accepts parameters such as data_col, timestamp_col, and id_cols as plain strings and inserts them unescaped via fmt.Sprintf into an AI.FORECAST table-valued SELECT statement. Although an allowedDatasets mechanism exists, it only validates the history_data parameter, not the final assembled query. Consequently, an attacker can break out of string literals and inject multi-statement or cross-dataset queries, bypassing dataset restrictions and accessing arbitrary BigQuery tables.

Potential Impact

An attacker with low privileges and no user interaction can exploit this vulnerability to perform SQL injection attacks that bypass operator-configured dataset restrictions. This leads to unauthorized reading of arbitrary BigQuery tables, potentially exposing sensitive data across datasets that should be inaccessible.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid using version 0.13.0 of MCP Toolbox for Databases or restrict access to trusted users only. Review and sanitize all client-controlled parameters before they are used in SQL queries to prevent injection. Monitor official Google advisories for updates and patches addressing this vulnerability.
