Technical Analysis

The OpenVPN ovpn-dco-win driver versions 2.5.0 through 2.8.6 contain a use-after-free vulnerability (CWE-415) that can be triggered by local authenticated users. Exploitation involves sending specially crafted control messages to the driver, resulting in a system crash. This vulnerability does not have a confirmed patch available, and no known exploits are reported in the wild. The CVSS 4.0 vector indicates a medium severity with local attack vector, low attack complexity, and no user interaction required.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation leads to a denial of service condition by crashing the system. There is no indication of privilege escalation, data disclosure, or code execution from the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict local authenticated user access to systems running affected versions of the ovpn-dco-win driver to mitigate risk.
