Description

CVE-2026-13065 is a vulnerability where a user with read-only privileges can craft an aggregation pipeline using the $linearFill window function operator with a specific sortBy expression type, causing the mongod process to terminate abnormally and resulting in denial of service. The root cause is insufficient validation of sort specifications during execution.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability allows a user with read-only access to trigger a denial of service in the MongoDB server process (mongod) by exploiting the $linearFill window function operator in aggregation pipelines with a specially crafted sortBy expression. The issue arises from inadequate validation of sort specifications, leading to abnormal termination of the mongod process.

Potential Impact

An attacker with read-only privileges can cause the MongoDB server process to crash, resulting in denial of service. This disrupts availability but does not provide escalation of privileges or data access beyond read-only permissions.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider restricting access to aggregation pipeline features or monitoring for abnormal process terminations as a temporary measure.
