Description

A critical vulnerability exists in the Segment Routing over IPv6 (SRv6) Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) feature of Cisco NX-OS Software. This flaw allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with root privileges or cause a denial of service by sending crafted packets to an affected device. The issue arises from improper input validation of IP traffic when NGOAM and SRv6 features are enabled.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-76501 is a critical vulnerability in Cisco NX-OS Software's SRv6 OAM (NGOAM) feature. It results from improper input validation of IP traffic, enabling an unauthenticated remote attacker to send specially crafted packets to an IP interface on the device. Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution with root privileges or cause process crashes that trigger device reloads and denial of service conditions.

Potential Impact

An attacker can remotely execute arbitrary code with root privileges on affected Cisco NX-OS devices or cause denial of service by crashing processes, leading to device reloads. This can severely impact device availability and control.
