Description
A critical vulnerability exists in the VXLAN Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) feature of Cisco NX-OS Software, known as NGOAM. This flaw allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with root privileges or cause a denial-of-service (DoS) by sending specially crafted packets to an affected device. The issue arises from improper input validation of IP traffic when NGOAM is enabled. Exploitation can lead to process crashes and device reloads, severely impacting availability.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-76486 is a critical vulnerability in the NGOAM feature of Cisco NX-OS Software. It stems from improper input validation of IP traffic when NGOAM is enabled. An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this by sending crafted packets to an IP interface on the device, potentially executing arbitrary code with root privileges or causing process crashes that lead to denial-of-service conditions. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 9.8, reflecting high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows remote, unauthenticated attackers to gain root-level code execution privileges or cause device crashes resulting in denial-of-service. This compromises device confidentiality, integrity, and availability, potentially disrupting network operations.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, consider disabling the NGOAM feature if feasible to mitigate risk.
