Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in zhayujie CowAgent up to version 2.1.1 affects the WebFetch.execute function in the agent/tools/web_fetch/web_fetch.py file. By manipulating the url argument, an attacker can trigger server-side request forgery (CWE-918). This could allow the server to make unauthorized requests to internal or external resources. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable without user interaction and has been publicly disclosed. The vendor responded promptly and released a fixed version 2.1.2, identified by patch ea47f3097eed4f8295c4cb3d76ecb97e0f43d632.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to cause the server to make arbitrary HTTP requests, potentially accessing internal systems or services not otherwise reachable. The vulnerability is classified as low severity, reflecting limited impact or exploitability based on the available data. There are no known active exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade zhayujie CowAgent to version 2.1.2 or later, which contains the official fix for this SSRF vulnerability. The vendor has released this patch promptly, and applying it fully mitigates the issue.
