Description

An arbitrary file manipulation vulnerability exists in the WebTools management interface of Brocade Fabric OS versions before 9.2.2d and 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1. This flaw allows an authenticated administrative user to manipulate system files by submitting a crafted status file parameter, potentially causing denial of service, system file destruction, host compromise, or data leakage.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in Brocade Fabric OS's WebTools management interface arises from improper validation and sanitization of a user-supplied status file path parameter during configuration transfer requests. An authenticated admin can exploit this by submitting a specially crafted parameter that causes the system to move arbitrary files to a world-readable temporary directory. This can result in persistent denial of service, destruction of critical system files, host compromise, or leakage of sensitive information. The affected versions are those before 9.2.2d and from 10.0.0 up to 10.0.0a1.

Potential Impact

Exploitation requires authenticated administrative access. Successful exploitation can lead to persistent denial of service, destruction of critical system files, host compromise, or sensitive data leakage. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, restrict administrative access to trusted personnel and monitor for suspicious activity related to configuration transfers.
