Description

An authentication bypass vulnerability in the Check Point SmartConsole login process allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to obtain an application login token and authenticate with full administrative privileges. Exploitation enables modification of security policies and configurations. Remote exploitation requires internet access to the Management Server IP and a configuration that does not restrict Trusted Clients. Check Point is aware of active exploitation affecting a very small number of customers.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-16232 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in the Check Point SmartConsole login process. It permits an unauthenticated remote attacker to obtain an application login token, which can be used to authenticate with full administrative privileges. This allows the attacker to modify security policies and configurations on the Management Server. Successful exploitation requires that the Management Server IP is accessible over the internet and that the configuration does not restrict Trusted Clients. Check Point has acknowledged active exploitation in the wild, though it has impacted only a very small number of customers. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.1, indicating high attackability and impact on confidentiality and integrity.

Potential Impact

An attacker exploiting this vulnerability can bypass authentication controls and gain full administrative access to the Check Point SmartConsole. This enables unauthorized modification of security policies and configurations, potentially compromising the security posture of the affected environment. The vulnerability does not impact availability. Exploitation requires network access to the Management Server and permissive Trusted Client settings.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict internet access to the Management Server IP address and ensure that Trusted Clients configurations are properly restricted to prevent unauthorized access. Monitor vendor communications for updates on patches or official mitigations.
