Vendor/Project: Brocade
Product: Fabric OS

Description

An input validation vulnerability in the Brocade Fabric OS administrative management API's security certificate management component allows an authenticated attacker with certificate deletion privileges to execute arbitrary system commands. This occurs because user-supplied certificate identifiers are not properly sanitized before being passed to external system routines. The vulnerability affects Fabric OS versions before 9.2.2d and versions 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-87688 describes an input validation flaw in the Brocade Fabric OS administrative management API, specifically in the security certificate management component. The vulnerability arises from inadequate sanitization of user-supplied certificate identifiers during certificate management operations. An attacker with authenticated privileges to delete certificates can exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary system commands with the privileges of the management daemon. The affected versions include Fabric OS versions prior to 9.2.2d and versions 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated user with certificate deletion privileges to execute arbitrary system commands with the privileges of the underlying management daemon, potentially leading to full system compromise or unauthorized control over the affected device's management functions.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict certificate deletion privileges to trusted administrators only and monitor for suspicious activity related to certificate management operations.
