Description

A vulnerability in the ConfirmNameConstraints() function of wolfSSL versions 5.9.1 and 5.9.2 can cause a Denial of Service (DoS). This occurs when attackers provide specially crafted Certificate Authority certificates, causing wolfSSL-based TLS clients to incorrectly reject valid certificates that lack Subject Alternative Names (SAN).

Technical Analysis

The ConfirmNameConstraints() function in wolfcrypt/src/asn.c of wolfSSL versions 5.9.1 and 5.9.2 contains a flaw that can be triggered by specially crafted Certificate Authority certificates. This flaw leads to valid certificates lacking SAN fields being mistakenly rejected, resulting in a Denial of Service condition for TLS clients relying on wolfSSL.

Potential Impact

Attackers can cause a Denial of Service by making wolfSSL-based TLS clients reject valid certificates without SAN, disrupting normal TLS connections and potentially causing service outages.
