Description

Lantronix EDS5000 version 2.1.0.0R3 contains a critical vulnerability in its HTTP RPC module where the username parameter is concatenated directly into a shell command without sanitization. This allows an attacker to inject arbitrary operating system commands that execute with root privileges, potentially leading to full system compromise.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2025-67038 is a command injection vulnerability in Lantronix EDS5000 2.1.0.0R3. The HTTP RPC module executes a shell command to write logs when user authentication fails, but the username parameter is not sanitized before being concatenated into the command. This enables attackers to inject arbitrary OS commands that run with root privileges, resulting in critical impact including full system compromise. The vulnerability is identified as CWE-78 (OS Command Injection) and CWE-94 (Improper Control of Generation of Code).

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the device with root privileges. This can lead to complete system compromise, including unauthorized access, data manipulation, and disruption of device functionality. The CVSS v3.1 score is 9.8 (critical), reflecting the high impact and ease of exploitation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the affected device's management interface and monitor for suspicious activity related to authentication failures. Avoid exposing the device to untrusted networks.
