Description

AnyDesk versions prior to 8.0.3 contain a critical heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary code as root on Linux systems without user approval. The flaw exists in the stream packet handler for mode 5 in the session protocol, where a payload length value is not properly validated.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109390 describes a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in AnyDesk before version 8.0.3. This vulnerability allows unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary code with root privileges on Linux systems by exploiting improper validation of a payload length value in the stream packet handler for mode 5 within the session protocol. The vulnerability enables command execution without requiring the victim's approval for desktop control.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in remote code execution as root without user interaction or approval, leading to full system compromise on affected Linux installations of AnyDesk prior to 8.0.3. The CVSS score of 9.8 indicates critical severity with high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

An official fix is available in AnyDesk version 8.0.3. Users and administrators should upgrade to version 8.0.3 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigations are specified.
