Description

Vikunja versions up to 2.5.0 have a vulnerability where authenticated users can enumerate all teams and their members by attaching arbitrary team IDs to projects. This occurs because the application fails to validate team access properly when teams are attached to projects. The vulnerability allows disclosure of team rosters, including member names and admin flags, for teams the user is not authorized to view. This issue is tracked as a medium severity vulnerability with a CVSS score of 4.3. The advisory is a duplicate and references GHSA-39p5-2wrr-xh29 for the original report.

Technical Analysis

In Vikunja versions up to 2.5.0, the API does not validate whether an authenticated user has access rights when attaching teams to projects. This flaw enables any authenticated user to supply arbitrary team IDs to the project teams endpoint and retrieve full team membership details, including member names and administrative status, for teams they should not have access to. This is an information disclosure vulnerability classified under CWE-200. The issue has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 4.3, reflecting low complexity and limited impact confined to confidentiality.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows authenticated users to enumerate all teams and their members, exposing sensitive information such as member names and admin flags for unauthorized teams. There is no impact on integrity or availability. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory GHSA-39p5-2wrr-xh29 for current remediation guidance. Since this advisory is a duplicate, refer to the original advisory for official fixes or mitigation steps.
