AI-suggested

A patch is available in Authlib version 1.3.1 that fixes this algorithm confusion vulnerability. Users should upgrade to version 1.3.1 or later to remediate this issue. Until upgraded, explicitly specifying the algorithm parameter in jwt.decode calls may reduce risk, but upgrading is the recommended solution.

Description

Authlib versions before 1.3.1 suffer from an algorithm confusion vulnerability involving asymmetric public keys. When decoding JWTs without specifying an algorithm, the library incorrectly allows HMAC verification using any asymmetric public key. This flaw can lead to improper verification of tokens, potentially enabling attackers to bypass authentication controls.
