Technical Analysis

An information disclosure vulnerability exists in Discourse's form template API due to missing authorization checks. Authenticated users can read form templates for categories they are not authorized to access, exposing site configuration metadata. This affects Discourse versions prior to 2026.1.4, versions from 2026.3.0 up to but not including 2026.3.1, and versions from 2026.4.0 up to but not including 2026.4.1. The issue has been resolved in versions 2026.1.4, 2026.3.1, 2026.4.1, and 2026.5.0.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows authenticated users to disclose site configuration metadata by accessing form templates for unauthorized categories. There is no indication of further impact such as privilege escalation or code execution. The exposure is limited to information disclosure of form template names and structured content.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Discourse to version 2026.1.4, 2026.3.1, 2026.4.1, or 2026.5.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigation is indicated or required.
