Technical Analysis

An incorrect authorization vulnerability in GitLab EE allowed authenticated users to escalate privileges by modifying group-level settings beyond their allowed permissions. The flaw affects versions >=16.10.0 <18.11.7, >=19.0.0 <19.0.4, and >=19.1.0 <19.1.2. The vulnerability has been fixed in versions 18.11.7, 19.0.4, and 19.1.2 respectively. No CVSS score is provided, and no known exploits are reported in the wild.

Potential Impact

Authenticated users could gain unauthorized ability to change group-level settings, potentially leading to privilege escalation within GitLab groups. This could affect group configuration integrity and security controls at the group level.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade GitLab EE to versions 18.11.7 or later, 19.0.4 or later, or 19.1.2 or later to apply the official fix. Since this is an on-premises product, administrators must apply these updates to remediate the vulnerability.
