Description
Coturn version 4.15.0 contains a vulnerability where an authenticated TURN user can repeatedly resume a single allocation from new UDP 5-tuples without completing a handoff when the server's --mobility option is enabled. This flaw allows the attacker to retain unbounded server-side sessions, potentially exhausting process memory even if user quotas are configured. The issue is resolved in version 4.16.0.

Technical Analysis
In Coturn 4.15.0, when the --mobility feature is enabled, an authenticated TURN user can exploit a flaw in the mobile_begin_transition() function that disarms allocation timeouts and overwrites the mobile_pending_resume link. This prevents cleanup of earlier pending sessions, allowing the attacker to maintain unlimited server-side sessions. Additionally, the copy_auth_parameters() function ignores failures from inc_quota(), bypassing user quota restrictions. This leads to potential memory exhaustion on the server. The vulnerability is fixed in Coturn version 4.16.0.
Potential Impact
An authenticated TURN user can cause unbounded retention of server-side sessions, leading to exhaustion of process memory on the server. This can result in denial of service conditions due to resource depletion. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade Coturn to version 4.16.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
