Technical Analysis

The Maintenance Page plugin for WordPress, up to version 1.0.8, contains an improper access control vulnerability (CWE-284) that exposes post titles and content through the REST API when the site is in maintenance mode. This exposure occurs without requiring authentication, allowing any remote attacker to retrieve this information. The vulnerability is identified as CVE-2024-1462 and has a medium severity rating with a CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.3. No patch or vendor advisory is currently available to confirm remediation status.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can access post titles and content on a WordPress site running the vulnerable Maintenance Page plugin while the site is in maintenance mode. This leads to information disclosure but does not affect integrity or availability. The exposure of content may aid attackers in reconnaissance or other indirect attacks but does not directly compromise site control or data modification.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, consider disabling the Maintenance Page plugin or restricting REST API access during maintenance mode to prevent unauthorized information disclosure.
