Until a fix is available, avoid using the SSL_OP_NO_TICKET option in TLSv1.3 server configurations without early_data support and default anti-replay protection to prevent triggering the unbounded memory growth. Monitoring and configuration adjustments should be considered to mitigate risk.

Description

CVE-2024-2511 is a vulnerability in OpenSSL TLS servers supporting TLSv1.3 that can cause unbounded memory growth under certain non-default configurations. Specifically, when the SSL_OP_NO_TICKET option is used without early_data support and default anti-replay protection, the session cache may fail to flush properly and grow without limit. This can lead to a denial of service (DoS) condition. The issue does not affect TLS clients, FIPS modules in versions 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2, or OpenSSL 1.0.2.
