AI-suggested

2) Implement strict input validation and sanitization for KTX image files before processing them in applications, including rejecting malformed or suspicious files. 3) Restrict local access to systems running vulnerable Qt applications to trusted users only, minimizing the risk of local exploitation. 4) Employ application-level sandboxing or containerization to limit the impact of potential crashes. 5) Conduct code audits and testing focused on image processing components to identify similar vulnerabilities. 6) Educate developers and system administrators about the risks associated with processing untrusted image files and the importance of timely patching. 7) Use runtime protections such as Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) and Data Execution Prevention (DEP) to reduce exploitation impact.

Description

An issue was discovered in gui/util/qktxhandler.cpp in Qt before 5.15.17, 6.x before 6.2.12, 6.3.x through 6.5.x before 6.5.5, and 6.6.x before 6.6.2. A buffer overflow and application crash can occur via a crafted KTX image file.
