What to do

AI-suggested

No explicit patch or fixed versions are provided in the input data. Since the mitigation was removed due to causing crashes, users should monitor vendor advisories for an official fix or updated kernel releases that address this issue properly. Avoid using the pmac_zilog serial console if possible until a fix is confirmed.

Description

CVE-2024-26999 addresses a flaw in the Linux kernel's serial/pmac_zilog driver where a mitigation for rx irq flood was removed. The previous mitigation attempted to stop the interrupt request completely but caused a crash when used as a serial console due to spinlock recursion. This led to a fatal BUG splat with CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK enabled and caused the serial port receive function to stop working. The flawed mitigation was removed as it is no longer needed and caused instability.
