Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-2797 is a missing authorization vulnerability in the MailerLite – Signup forms (official) WordPress plugin, affecting all versions up to 1.7.6. The vulnerability arises because the functions toggleRolesAndPermissions and editAllowedRolesAndPermissions lack proper capability checks, allowing unauthenticated attackers to alter plugin settings. This can lead to unauthorized modification of signup forms by lower-privileged users. The vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 score of 5.3 (medium severity) and is classified under CWE-862. No patch or official remediation details are currently available.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can change plugin settings, specifically enabling lower-level users to modify signup forms, which could lead to unauthorized changes in form behavior or data collection. There is no indication of confidentiality or availability impact, and no known exploits have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the plugin settings and monitor for unauthorized changes. Avoid granting unnecessary permissions to lower-level users. Follow updates from the vendor for an official patch or mitigation instructions.
