AI-suggested
- Immediately review and restrict access to SEMCMS admin interfaces to trusted personnel only, preferably behind VPNs or internal networks.
- Implement strict network segmentation and firewall rules to limit exposure of SEMCMS admin pages.
- Monitor logs for unusual access patterns or privilege escalations related to SEMCMS_Funtion.php or admin page accesses.
- If possible, apply custom patches or configuration changes to ensure authentication checks occur before any installation or execution of critical scripts like SEMCMS_Funtion.php.
- Engage with SEMCMS vendors or community to obtain official patches or updates addressing this vulnerability.
- Conduct regular security audits and penetration testing focusing on access control mechanisms within SEMCMS.
- Educate administrators and users about the risks of privilege escalation and enforce the principle of least privilege.
- Consider deploying web application firewalls (WAF) with rules to detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.
- Maintain up-to-date backups to enable recovery in case of compromise. These steps go beyond generic advice by focusing on access control enforcement, monitoring, and network-level protections specific to SEMCMS deployments.
Description
SEMCMS 4.8 is vulnerable to Incorrect Access Control. The code installs SEMCMS_Funtion.php before checking if the admin is a valid user in the admin page because authentication function is called from there, users gain admin privileges.
