Red Hat has released an updated GnuTLS package that fixes this timing side-channel vulnerability. Users of affected Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 versions should apply the security update RHSA-2024:1784 promptly. Ensure all prior relevant errata are applied before updating. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.

Description

CVE-2024-28834 is a cryptographic vulnerability in GnuTLS related to the Minerva attack, which exploits deterministic behavior causing a timing side-channel leak. This occurs specifically when the GNUTLS_PRIVKEY_FLAG_REPRODUCIBLE flag is used, leading to a detectable step change in nonce size from 513 to 512 bits. The vulnerability can leak sensitive cryptographic information through timing analysis.
