AI-suggested
- Implement strict input validation and output encoding for the 'lang' URL parameter to neutralize any embedded scripts.
- Employ Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict the execution of unauthorized scripts within Moodle web pages.
- Educate users and administrators about the risks of clicking on untrusted links, especially those containing suspicious URL parameters.
- Monitor web server logs for unusual requests targeting the 'lang' parameter to detect potential exploitation attempts.
- Apply any official patches or updates from Moodle as soon as they become available.
- Consider deploying Web Application Firewalls (WAF) with rules designed to detect and block reflected XSS payloads targeting Moodle.
- Review and harden user session management to limit the impact of stolen session tokens, including enforcing short session timeouts and multi-factor authentication where possible.
Description
A Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in the way MOODLE 3.10.9 handles user input within the "GET /?lang=" URL parameter.
