AI-suggested
- Immediate mitigation should include sanitizing and validating all user inputs, especially the Logout parameter in the Language section, to prevent script injection.
- Apply any official patches or updates from CMSimple as soon as they become available.
- Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict the execution of unauthorized scripts on the website.
- Use HTTP-only and secure cookies to reduce the risk of session hijacking via script access.
- Educate users and administrators about the risks of clicking unknown or suspicious links to reduce the likelihood of user interaction exploitation.
- Monitor web server logs and application behavior for unusual requests or payloads targeting the Logout parameter.
- If patching is delayed, consider temporarily disabling or restricting access to the vulnerable Settings menu or the Language section to reduce exposure.
- Employ web application firewalls (WAFs) with rules designed to detect and block XSS attack patterns targeting CMSimple parameters.
Description
Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Settings menu of CMSimple v5.15 allows attackers to execute arbitrary web scripts or HTML via a crafted payload injected into the Logout parameter under the Language section.
