What to do

AI-suggested

To mitigate CVE-2024-34539 effectively, organizations should first isolate affected TerraMaster devices from untrusted networks, especially the internet, to prevent remote exploitation. Disable mail and webmail services on the device if they are not essential, reducing the attack surface. Implement strict network segmentation and firewall rules to restrict access to the NAS administration interfaces to trusted internal hosts only. Monitor network traffic and device logs for unusual login attempts or access patterns indicative of exploitation attempts. Where possible, replace vulnerable devices or downgrade services until a vendor patch is released. Engage with TerraMaster support to obtain official guidance and updates. Employ compensating controls such as multi-factor authentication on network access points and regular backups stored offline to mitigate potential data loss. Maintain heightened vigilance for threat intelligence updates regarding this vulnerability and any emerging exploits.

Description

Hardcoded credentials in TerraMaster TOS firmware through 5.1 allow a remote attacker to successfully login to the mail or webmail server. These credentials can also be used to login to the administration panel and to perform privileged actions.
