What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users should update to a kernel version that includes this patch once it is released. Until then, no specific workaround is provided. Monitor vendor advisories for official patch releases.

Description

CVE-2024-35870 is a use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SMB client implementation, specifically in the smb2_reconnect_server() function. The flaw occurs when the function accesses a session that is concurrently being torn down by another thread, leading to potential memory corruption and a general protection fault. This issue has been fixed by ensuring the session status is set to SES_EXITING unconditionally to prevent concurrent modifications during teardown.
