What to do

AI-suggested

A patch has been released that fixes this issue by reordering the operations in the rxe_comp_queue_pkt() function. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. No other mitigation steps are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-38544 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's RDMA rxe driver. The flaw occurs in the rxe_comp_queue_pkt() function where an incoming response packet is enqueued and then dereferenced to update a performance counter. If the completer task is running concurrently and has already processed and freed the packet, dereferencing it causes a segmentation fault. This issue has been observed infrequently under high load conditions. The patch fixes the problem by reordering operations to access the counter before enqueuing the packet.
