What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to restrict reload and unload operations to only the IB representors of the slaves during lag disable/enable, preventing the deadlock. Users should apply the updated Linux kernel version containing this patch. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

CVE-2024-38557 addresses a deadlock vulnerability in the Linux kernel's mlx5 driver related to lag (link aggregation) disable/enable operations. The issue occurs because the existing flow unloads all representors, including ethernet representors, which the lag driver should not manage, leading to a deadlock due to lock re-acquisition. The fix restricts reload and unload operations to only the InfiniBand (IB) representors of the slaves, preventing the deadlock.
