What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that moves the EST lock to the stmmac_priv structure and properly reacquires the mutex lock during initialization. Users should apply the updated Linux kernel version containing this fix once it is released. No additional mitigation steps are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-38594 addresses a concurrency issue in the Linux kernel's stmmac network driver where the EST lock was embedded within the EST structure. Reinitializing the EST structure reset the embedded mutex lock, causing kernel warnings and potential instability. The fix moves the EST lock to the stmmac_priv structure and ensures the mutex is properly reacquired during initialization.
