AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released in multiple Linux kernel versions including 5.4.0-1132.142~18.04.1 and later. Users should update to these fixed kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's MIPS Octeon platform could cause a kernel panic due to a "Data bus error" when accessing PCIe peripheral device configuration space after a PCIe link surprise down event. The issue arises because the kernel attempts to read/write configuration space without checking the PCIe link status. The fix involves adding a PCIe link status check to prevent such access when the link is down or in training, thereby avoiding kernel panic.
