What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to add bounds checking in the xlog_recover_process_data function. Users and administrators should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix once available. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No alternative mitigations or workarounds are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-41014 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's XFS filesystem code. It involves a lack of bounds checking in the xlog_recover_process_data function, which can lead to an out-of-bounds read. This occurs due to insufficient verification of the space occupied by fixed members of the xlog_op_header structure. An attacker can craft a specially modified XFS image to trigger this condition. The vulnerability has been addressed by adding checks to ensure sufficient space before accessing these fixed members.
