What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that adds the missing verification to drop frames shorter than the Ethernet header size in the tun_xdp_one() path. Users should apply the official Linux kernel patches that address this issue. Since the vulnerability is in the kernel, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended remediation. No alternative mitigations or workarounds are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-41091 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's tun driver where missing verification for short frames in the tun_xdp_one() path can lead to corrupted socket buffers (skb) being sent downstream. This flaw allows out-of-bound memory access or inconsistent header length metadata, potentially causing denial of service or other impacts. The vulnerability is addressed by dropping frames shorter than the Ethernet header size, aligning with existing checks in other code paths.
