What to do
AI-suggested
- Immediately restrict access to the vulnerable endpoints (/smsa/add_subject.php and /smsa/add_subject_submit.php) by implementing network-level controls such as IP whitelisting or VPN-only access.
- Implement strong authentication and authorization checks on all subject management functions to ensure only authorized users can add or modify subject entries.
- Monitor web server logs and application logs for unusual activity related to these endpoints, including repeated or anomalous requests from unauthenticated sources.
- If possible, deploy a web application firewall (WAF) with rules to detect and block unauthorized attempts to access subject addition functionality.
- Engage with the software vendor or development team to obtain or develop patches that properly enforce access control on these endpoints.
- Conduct a thorough audit of all subject entries to identify and remove any unauthorized additions that may have occurred.
- Educate system administrators and users about the importance of securing management interfaces and promptly applying security updates.
- Segment the school management system network from public-facing services to reduce exposure.
- Consider implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) for administrative access to increase security posture.
