What to do

AI-suggested

  1. Network Segmentation: Isolate Tenda FH1201 devices from untrusted networks and restrict access to their management interfaces using firewalls or access control lists (ACLs).
  2. Disable Remote Management: If remote management is enabled on the router, disable it to reduce exposure to external attackers.
  3. Monitor Network Traffic: Deploy intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) to detect anomalous POST requests targeting the PPW parameter or unusual traffic patterns to the router's management interface.
  4. Vendor Communication: Regularly check Tenda's official channels for firmware updates or patches addressing this vulnerability and apply them promptly once available.
  5. Temporary Workarounds: If feasible, limit HTTP POST request sizes or filter malformed requests at the network perimeter to mitigate exploitation attempts.
  6. Device Replacement: Consider replacing vulnerable devices with models that have active security support if patches are not forthcoming.
  7. Incident Response Preparedness: Prepare to respond to potential DoS incidents by having backup connectivity options and monitoring device health continuously.

Description

Tenda FH1201 v1.2.0.14 (408) was discovered to contain a stack overflow via the PPW parameter in the fromWizardHandle function. This vulnerability allows attackers to cause a Denial of Service (DoS) via a crafted POST request.
