What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to properly align the RX buffer allocation size in the MANA driver. Users should apply the official kernel updates containing this fix. Since this is a kernel-level issue, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation. No additional workarounds or mitigations are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-45001 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's MANA network driver. It involves improper alignment of the RX buffer allocation size passed to napi_build_skb(), which affects skb_shinfo(skb) alignment. On ARM64 CPUs, this misalignment can cause atomic operation panics on skb_shinfo(skb)->dataref, especially with certain MTU settings such as 4000. The issue results in kernel panics due to alignment faults. The vulnerability has been fixed by adding proper alignment to the alloc_size calculation.
