What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability is available in the Linux kernel source code by correcting the memcpy length in the nxp-fspi SPI driver. Users and administrators should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch. Since this is a kernel-level issue, updating to a fixed kernel version is the recommended mitigation. No alternative workarounds are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-46853 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's nxp-fspi SPI driver. It involves an out-of-bounds memory access detected by KASAN when writing data that is not 4-byte aligned to the TX FIFO, such as writing 3 bytes to a NOR chip. This flaw can cause memory corruption and potentially lead to system instability or compromise. The issue is fixed by correcting the memcpy length to prevent out-of-bounds writes.
