The vulnerability has been resolved in the Linux kernel by correcting the labeling of returned packets to use the correct label 'bar' instead of 'foo'. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. No additional mitigation is indicated beyond applying the fix.
Description
CVE-2024-47659 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Smack security module affecting TCP/IPv4 connections. The flaw causes returned packets to be incorrectly labeled, allowing a label 'bar' to write to label 'foo' without proper authorization. This mislabeling can lead to unauthorized write access between Smack labels over network connections. The issue has been present since Linux kernel release 2.6.29.4 and affects both TCP and DCCP protocols.
