A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to address this issue by using unsigned integer wrap around for sorting padata objects. Users should apply the official kernel updates that include this fix once available.

Description

CVE-2024-47739 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's padata subsystem where integer overflow in sequence numbers (seq_nr) can cause a deadlock. When more than 2^32 padata objects are submitted, the sorting algorithm mishandles overflowed seq_nr values, leading to incorrect ordering and a deadlock in serialization. The issue is fixed by implementing unsigned integer wrap around to correctly sort padata objects after overflow.
