What to do
AI-suggested
To mitigate CVE-2024-49195, organizations should prioritize upgrading to Mbed TLS version 3.6.2 or later as soon as it becomes available, as this version contains the necessary fixes for the buffer underrun issue. In the interim, organizations should audit their use of Mbed TLS to identify affected versions and isolate vulnerable systems from untrusted networks where possible. Employing network-level protections such as firewalls and intrusion prevention systems can help detect and block exploitation attempts targeting the pkwrite function. Additionally, implementing strict access controls and monitoring for anomalous behavior related to cryptographic operations can provide early warning of exploitation attempts. Developers should review their code for unsafe handling of cryptographic key operations and consider applying custom patches if upgrading is not immediately feasible. Regularly updating cryptographic libraries and maintaining an inventory of embedded devices using Mbed TLS will improve overall security posture against similar vulnerabilities.
Description
Mbed TLS 3.5.x through 3.6.x before 3.6.2 has a buffer underrun in pkwrite when writing an opaque key pair
