A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Since no specific patch versions are provided, users should update their Linux kernel to the latest stable release where this issue is resolved. Monitor vendor advisories for official patch releases and apply them promptly.

Description

CVE-2024-49860 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ACPI sysfs interface where the _STR method's return type was not properly validated. Only buffer objects are valid returns for _STR, but if other types are returned, the description_show() function may access invalid memory, potentially causing a denial of service or system instability.
