What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented that limits the number of concurrent asynchronous COPY operations per namespace in the Linux kernel NFSD. Systems should apply this patch or update to a kernel version that includes this fix to prevent potential denial-of-service attacks. Clients receiving NFS4ERR_DELAY should implement retry logic or fallback to traditional copy methods as recommended.

Description

CVE-2024-49974 addresses a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFSD component where there is no limit on the number of concurrent asynchronous COPY operations clients can initiate. Each async COPY can process an unlimited number of 4MB chunks, potentially allowing long-running operations that can be exploited as a denial-of-service (DoS) vector. The fix introduces a per-namespace limit on concurrent background COPY operations, returning NFS4ERR_DELAY when the limit is exceeded to throttle requests.
