Until a fix is available, avoid triggering the specific ioctl call sequence involving FBIOPUT_CON2FBMAP and TIOCLINUX that leads to the NULL pointer dereference. Monitor official Linux kernel advisories for updates and apply patches once released.
Description
CVE-2024-50048 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's framebuffer console (fbcon) subsystem where a NULL pointer dereference occurs in the fbcon_putcs function. This issue arises due to improper initialization of a function pointer ops->putcs, leading to a kernel panic when certain ioctl calls are made in sequence. The flaw was discovered by syzbot and involves a specific sequence of ioctl operations that trigger the NULL pointer dereference.
