What to do

AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been implemented in the Linux kernel. Users and administrators should apply the official kernel updates that include this patch to ensure the issue is resolved. Since this is a kernel-level fix, upgrading to a patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation. No additional workarounds or mitigations are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-50060 is a medium-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's io_uring subsystem. It addresses a flaw where the kernel did not check if rescheduling was needed during the flushing of overflow entries. Under normal application use, this overflow list is empty or small, but specially crafted test cases can generate many overflow entries, causing prolonged flush times. The fix introduces checks to reschedule during flushing by temporarily dropping and reacquiring locks, preventing potential performance degradation or denial of service.
